Don't Just Fix Bugs , Fix Your Health !!!

Yeah! it feels good to write again. Recently after my first post here which was Hello World , i fell sick, awful right? and it opened my eyes to how have neglected my health for a long period of time just because i want to write codes. I know am not the only guilty of that, having lot a of sleepless night, poor diet or should i say bad eating habits and lots more which very sure you know the items on list. Now this brings to the fact that most programmers especially those who are just getting into field pay less attention to health!, we are more worried about the bugs we have to fix or maybe that new language we want learn and yet we fail to realize the bugs in our health also needs fixing.

ec_dse_1200.jpg Okay, i know some of guys wont believe but ask yourself this questions, How often do exercise?, How much water do you drink in a day? How often do you eat? or even sleep? when last did you go for your medical checkup?... If you can't answer those questions, you need to re-prioritize yourself. Programming can be one of the worst things for your health, long hours of sitting in front of a computer, with impending deadlines just over the cubicle. This takes a toll on the body and mind. I will also share ways that can help you health wise as a programmer

  1. Drink Lot Of Water and Not Soda

Its quite funny but most programmers(myself included) drink more soda related contents than water itself. Drinking water helps to keep you hydrated and its good for your organs. the benefit of drinking water cant be overstated.

  2. Get Enough Sleep

There is this popular believe that if you want to be good programmer you should sleep less. Well am sorry to inform you, its a LIE! I once had that believe too. Getting enough sleeps helps to refresh your brain and helps your body relax. This was the toughest change I had to make and it probably will be for you, too

  3. Eat well

Not going for fast food a lot and drinking water or other healthy drinks can help provide your body the actual vitamins and nutrients it needs to be healthy.

  4. Take pauses

A lot of newbies usually fall under this category. pushing yourself hard is good but know when its enough.Preferable using the pomodoro technique... After every 25 mins, take a 5 min break.

  5. Keep yourself fit

In your free time you could go jogging, if bored you could some do sport or take dance lessons.

There are many other ways to stay healthy as programmer, spend more with friends and family, rest and eat good food... Think am getting better at this, well till my next post, keep safe, stay healthy.
